It is the fourth Forza Horizon title and eleventh instalment in the Forza series. The game is noted for its introduction of changing seasons to the series, as well as featuring several content-expanding updates which have included new game modes. This game is set to feature the largest map yet in the Forza Horizon series. On top of this, the developer promises a new Expedition mode and a new feature called Events Lab. This feature allows players to create their own game modes, experiences, and races.

Unfortunately for PlayStation players, it seems unlikely this series will ever get across consoles. Here, "crossplay" means that, when playing, you can match with gamers who are on PCs or other Xbox systems. That greatly improves the pool of gamers to draw from, which makes it easier for races to fill up and get started. It also makes it easier to play with friends who may prefer to use their PC racing setups — and vice-versa for those who enjoy racing on a console in front of their TVs. To an extent, cross-saving is also supported, so some gamers are able to switch between PC and console without losing progress. However, Forza Horizon 5 is on another level on Xbox Series X and it's one of the few games where I prefer the 30fps quality mode to its 60fps equivalent.

The increase in fidelity and the more graceful LOD transitions combined with the upgraded visuals elevate it significantly beyond performance mode. True, it's not 60fps but the motion blur is the best I've seen in bridging the gap. Of course, it is possible to play this game at full frame-rate with Series X's mixture of high, ultra and extreme settings - and that's where the PC version comes into play. We'll be reporting back on our testing and experiences there soon. In December 2020, as part of the Series 30 update, another new game mode called Super7 was added to the game, which came alongside the expanded "Blueprint Builder" feature.

In Super7, players have to complete a series of seven randomly selected stunt challenges for rewards. The Blueprint Builder expands upon the Forza Blueprint feature by allowing players to set up ramps, structures and scenery à la the TrackMania series to create their own challenges and share them with the game's online community. In the following days, a fictional car, known as the 2058 Quadra V-Tech, was included in the game as part of the release of Cyberpunk 2077. The game features a route creator which enables players to create races using completely customized routes. The game takes place in a synchronised shared world, compared to the AI-driven 'drivatars' from its predecessors, with each server supporting up to 72 players.

Forza Horizon 5 will be released on November 9, 2021, but there is a way to play the game 4 days before its global release. To do that, players need to have brought the Forza Horizon 5 Premium Edition, which will give them the right to take part in the game's early access phase, scheduled to start in 2 days, on November 5th. Yes, Forza Horizon 5 does support cross-play across Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and PC players, meaning you can group up in convoys or race against multiple players no matter which platform they happen to call home. Forza Horizon 5 also supports cloud gaming too, so those who are playing via mobile devices can also experience cross-play with all the regular platforms. Forza Horizon 5 is also an impressive test case for Microsoft's cross-generational hardware strategy.

I played the game for several hours on my Xbox One X, and it doesn't feel compromised compared to anything else on the console. It's still a better-looking game than 3 and 4, and it looks more or less the same as the Series X version's 60fps mode — just running at half the frame rate. The One X is generally a machine designed for 4K/30fps games, and that's what you get here with Forza Horizon 5. Would the Series X game have looked even better if it didn't have to run on Xbox One consoles? Maybe, but it's hard to complain about the performance on either platform.

If you're an arcade racing game purist, Burnout Paradise has a lot to answer for. Ever since, virtually all big-budget arcade racing games have been made in the shadow of Paradise, with most tracks consisting of lines drawn across vast, explorable maps. Switch from 30fps to the 60fps 'Performance' mode and you'll immediately feel the difference. Playground state that this is still running at a maximum 4K resolution, but that "additional graphics settings adjusted to maintain target framerate". In practical terms motion blur is reduced significantly giving it a much more gamey feel and pop-in is now noticeable, . However, it's also just that much more responsive feeling when you play the game and, after a short time at 60fps, a switch back to 30fps feels like daggers in your eyes.

In December 2019, as part of the Series 17 update, a new 72-player battle royale-style mode called The Eliminator was added. In this mode, players start by driving around the game world in a fairly slow, weak car such as a 1965 Mini Cooper. As players roam the safe zone, they can acquire car drops that contain more powerful vehicles that randomly appear on the map. Players can also challenge other players to head-to-head races to specific points on the map by pointing their camera at the other's vehicle and honking their horn. Players are eliminated from the event if they drive out of the safe zone or lose a head-to-head race, where the winner of such has the option to drive the opponent's car or receive an upgrade.

Eventually, when the safe zone shrinks to a certain point, the remaining players will then race to one final point on the map to determine the winner. Microsoft stated in 2021 that The Eliminator was the most popular multiplayer mode in the game. Aside from attracting buyers, the game also boasts more than three times the number of concurrent players thanForza Horizon 4 even at its highest point. For the most part, Forza Horizon 5 does support cross-saves, meaning that you can continue your progress on other platforms, which is great if you've got multiple gaming set-ups. However, it's worth noting that players on Steam will not be able to use the cross-save feature, though they'll still experience the benefits of cross-play with other platforms.

Playing Forza Horizon 5 on a phone might not be ideal if you're a more competitive racer. If I did that while playing on my phone, I don't think I'd keep up. Forza Horizon 5 has crossplay between all platforms.This is no doubt good news for players with friends on different platforms as it makes joining up a breeze. Gone are the days of wringing your hands as you try to work out which of your friends are on what platform and who needs to switch or if someone needs to purchase a new system. Players on console and PC can unite as they race around the beautiful Mexico landscapes. This makes finding the fast travel board locations even better as you can do it with friends.

Playground Games has delivered their latest masterpiece with Forza Horizon 5, which features the series' most diverse map and largest car list yet. Through our tests we have been able to draw up three degrees of graphic fidelity on consoles. Then there's the Xbox One X with its dynamic 4K graphics profile that's roughly equivalent in quality to the Series consoles' 60fps performance mode, but each has its strengths.

In some areas, the Series X's performance mode seems to stage a much better level of terrain detail than the One X version. But in other areas the Series S's textures don't look as good as the One X's ( which also has lower dynamic resolution 810p-1080p). The Series X performance mode matches the DRS Plus 1600p-2160p profile. However, it should be noted that changes in resolution are very difficult to notice with the naked eye. And it is also impossible to find any drop in fluidity compared to the target of 60fps on Series consoles in performance mode.

Cross-play is on by default, and unless you're planning on playing the game in Horizon Solo, the offline single-player mode, there's no way in-game to stop yourself from matching up with PC players. It's not a huge deal, considering Forza Horizon 5 is a racing game and not a shooting game where mouse and keyboard players would have the advantage over controller players. A community of gearheads and music lovers getting together to form the biggest festival in the world sounds like heaven on Earth, but unfortunately, it's just the premise for Forza Horizon 5.

That allows players to try out new games quickly and easily, without having to take the time to install it. You won't need to take up your precious storage space, and can jump into a cloud-supported game right away and play with friends without having to worry about long download times. Forza Horizon 5 doesn't change the basic structure, and there's still a huge amount of stuff dotting the Mexican map. But it does do a better job of easing you into its mountain of content. You're able to choose which specific types of events to unlock as you progress, so, for example, I preferred to focus on closed-track road races early on before delving into cross-country rallies. I feel like if I stopped playing the game and came back to it weeks later, I'd have a much better sense of what I'd been doing and where would be best for me to spend the next couple of hours.

In turn, that makes me feel better about simply driving around the landscape in search of whatever esoteric quest I might come across. Unlike with 4, I've never felt like I'm wasting my time in Forza Horizon 5, as I always have more of a sense of what I could be working toward. Yes, Forza Horizon 5 has crossplay between Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and players on PC, regardless of whether they're on Steam or the Microsoft Store.

Not only is crossplay in the game but, according to the Forza Motorsport support page, Forza Horizon 5 features cross-save functionality for all Microsoft platforms. Unfortunately, Steam users will not be able to take advantage of this service. The only exception to this rule is for those PC players who are playing through Steam.

Steam players do not have cross-save support on their version of the game. Only Microsoft Store versions of the game will feature cross-save support with Xbox consoles. Horizon 4 I feel is really good in the graphics, atmosphere and car list.

I played heaps of racing games back in the day and Forza just doesn't pull me in like NFS did.
